At Urology Associates of South Texas, we offer leading-edge urology care, including the only fellowship-trained incontinence specialist in the area and complete stress urinary incontinence (SUI) care in our Continence Care Center. We are among the few practices in the area that offer the latest advances in treating female SUI.

You don’t have to live with urinary incontinence anymore. Thanks to continuous advances, we can now effectively treat all forms of incontinence. We have the medical expertise to diagnose the cause of incontinence and treat it with a variety of innovative methods, safely and effectively:

• Interstim® therapy – A small device sends mild electrical pulses to a nerve located in the lower back to treat urinary urge incontinence, urinary retention or significant symptoms of urgency-frequency.

• Biofeedback and medication – A combination of these two treatments is often more effective for the patient than either one alone.

• Biofeedback therapy – Uses an electronic monitor to train your bladder and urethral muscles to contract and strengthen.

• Medications – The latest proven drug therapies.

Urge incontinence: Urgency and frequency are the hallmarks of this problem; most women are easily treated by avoiding excess fluid intake and bladder irritants such as coffee or spicy food, timed voiding, hormone replacement or medications.

We now offer Interstim as a solution for those patients who have proven to be refractory to the usual treatment. Interstim involves the placement of tiny wires into the lowermost nerve root for electrical stimulation to desensitize the nerve while eliminating the need for urgent and uncontrollable voiding. It’s highly effective and dramatically improves the well-being of those patients who had previously suffered greatly with this condition.
